Nocturnal Return

Stepping onto Mare Island… and back in time to my high school days of venturing out into the darkness to photograph the stars and the landscape under moonlight.

While we waited for the sun to go down and the long exposures to begin, the setting sun illuminated the sky and the old docks and buildings with so much color, it was impossible to keep up with everything going on. That kid-in-a-candystore feeling.

It was both comforting and exhilerating to begin making long exposure photos again. Although it has been fifteen years since I used a cable release, set the camera to “bulb”, and measured the exposures in minutes, it felt like it was just yesterday.
