About Me

Matt BallWelcome to my photo blog.

I love photography and would like to use this site to display some of my work and connect with other people interested in photography. I’m originally from Arlington, Virginia and relocated to San Francisco, California.

I started photography at age 13 with a Pentax K-1000, primarily shot black and white film, and printed my own prints in the darkroom. I transitioned to digital around the year 2000, and traded in a lot of the personal fulfillment that came with the film process for the convenience and flexibility that the new digital format provided. I’m still trying to find my way in the digital realm, learning Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, posting to Instagram/Flickr, and struggling to whittle down 2,500 shots to 10 good ones. I currently shoot with a Nikon D850 and use 50mm f1.8, 16-35mm f4, and 70-200 f2.8 lenses.

Most of what I shoot is landscape oriented, but I would like to explore other types of photography such as city life, portraits, night shooting, digital infrared and more.

Drop me a line if you have any comments or suggestions!
